Summer Season: Warmer Philippines Begins | Condo Tips

Mar 22, 2022

The heat is on, and that means it’s time to talk all about summer! The summer season is finally starting to set in the Philippines and temperatures are rising, the beaches are filled and people are spending more quality time together. It is summer and you know what that means: peak hours, heat, and humidity! The summer season in the Philippines is officially every April and May of the year, but the rise in heat and humidity can be felt as early as March and can last until mid-June when the rainy season begins. The transition from warm to hot is gradual. Over these hot summer days, many people want to get out of the city and head to the beach or find a pool to cool off.

While you can’t control how hot the temperature will be, you must know all about summer.

Things You Can Do to Stay Cool And Comfortable

Drink a lot of water

Drink plenty of water throughout the summer months to keep your body temperature down. During the heat, dehydration is your worst enemy. Headaches, dizziness, and tiredness are all possible side effects. Heat exhaustion or worse can occur if you don't drink enough water. The summer season in the Philippines is also a time to be cautious, so remain hydrated throughout the day to avoid heat stress or heat stroke.

The suggested quantity of water per day is 8 to 12 glasses, however, this varies based on how much fluid you consume from meals and other beverages.

Shower daily

Showering every day, especially when going out, is customary in the Philippines. It helps regulate your body temperature and prevent heat-related headaches, not only because of excessive sweating in the summer. On exceptionally hot days in the summer, Filipinos are known to shower twice a day. This will help the people to cool down and have a fresh feeling during the summer months in the Philippines.

Maximize your refrigerator

One of the most critical items you'll need to battle the heat is your refrigerator. Refreshing beverages and ice sweets can help you stay hydrated while also lowering your body temperature. If your refrigerator and freezer aren't working properly, you won't be able to enjoy ice pops, ice cream, or cold beverages. Check your refrigerator, especially if you have an older model at home. Even after setting the thermostat, if it's barely keeping your food and beverages cold, you should get it examined and fixed right away. If you've had your refrigerator or chiller for more than a decade, it's probably time to replace it with a high-quality, energy-efficient model.

Avoid coffee, tea, and soda

To combat hot summer months, we should drink as much fluid as possible, but not all beverages provide the same benefits. Because coffee, tea, soda, and other soft drinks are diuretics, they should be avoided during the summer in the Philippines. Diuretics are foods and beverages that cause the body to produce more urine. On hot days, excessive urination can lead to dehydration and the loss of not only body fluids but also electrolytes. One technique to avoid heat exhaustion or even heat stroke is to avoid dehydration. So, it is still better to drink your water from time to time.

Prepare a facial mist

Another suggestion is to keep a spray bottle full of water in the fridge. Take a clean spray bottle, fill it with a mixture of one part aloe vera gel and three parts water, and store it in the refrigerator. When the heat gets too much, pull out the homemade facial mist from the fridge and spritz it liberally over your face and neck. Making a mist using one part aloe vera gel and three parts water might be beneficial, especially as aloe vera has both cooling and moisturizing effects. Spritz some on your face and body whenever you're feeling hot for a pleasant, cooling mist. Spray a cool hydrating facial mist on your tired and parched skin to revitalize and refresh it.

Prepare your summer outfits

Apart from avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun and being hydrated, what you wear can influence how your body adjusts to temperature. Loose-fitting clothing composed of cooling, breathable fibers like cotton, rayon, chambray, and linen is recommended. Bright-colored tops, such as yellow or orange, can help to keep the heat of the sun at bay.

Create frozen treats

The summer season in the Philippines is also the best time to enjoy cold, frozen sweets like ice cream, ice candy, and halo-halo, a popular ice-shaved dish. Cool drinks like fruit shakes, smoothies, sago't gulaman, and buko juice will quench your thirst if these frozen sweets are too sweet for you.

Go for a swim

If your home is near the beach, river, or in any bodies of water that are suitable for swimming, plan to go out and swim with your friends or family. Since the summer season in the Philippines requires recreational activities to beat the heat and make the most of the summer months, swimming is one of the go-to and default activities to do.

Swimming can also provide you with a low-impact workout and it’s also a good way to relax and feel good.

Don't forget your sunscreen!

Applying sunscreen is an important step in preventing sunburn. While exposure to the sun has health benefits, excessive exposure can cause painful and dangerous conditions such as sunburn, wrinkles, premature aging, and skin cancer. Avoid direct sunlight between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when temperatures and UV radiation are at their maximum. at 2:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. Aside from this, include using a hat, umbrella, and sunglasses for additional protection from the scorching heat from the sun.

Even when the heat is on, there are still ways you can experience some relief. With a little preparation and knowledge, you can still enjoy the summer season without dealing with a heat stroke. Planning will go a long way in keeping you cool during this period. Don’t just throw yourself into the hot weather without thinking of ways to stay comfortable, or your summer months could be rather miserable!
