All About Good Food Sunday Market in Mandaluyong

Jun 15, 2022

Patronizing your own remains the most effective strategy to keep small businesses alive and well. Purchasing locally produced goods is also one of the most acceptable methods to help the local and national economies recover from the pandemic. Despite the Philippines being an agricultural country with year-round growing capability and rich tropical soils, Filipinos are becoming more aware of the suffering of farmers, who are considered among the poorest. Agriculture continues to be a neglected sector, contributing only a fraction of the country's GDP.

Good Food collaborates with farmers to develop a supply strategy to solve these issues and agree on set prices and minimum spend volumes throughout the year. The Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) concept of Good Food gives mindful consumers a clear picture of how we aid farmers. Small farmers in the Philippines, for example, suffer numerous problems, including a lack of credit and logistical and infrastructure support. Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) is an alternative distribution system in which a community supports production by purchasing harvest contracts from a specific farm or group of farmers.

Our CSA approach allows us to make regular purchasing and price agreements with our farmers by committing to affordable, local, and seasonal vegetables delivered weekly to your home. Stable demand for their Food at fixed, fair prices protects them from market volatility, ensuring long-term revenue and support for their organic methods, providing you a fair share of their harvest all year.

What is a Good Food Community?

The Good Food Co. is an alternative food system that transforms customers into co-producers through ethical and ecological farming. They began in 2011, bridging the worlds of delivery, Sunday Markets, and eCommerce to benefit farmers. The team's primary responsibility is to collaborate with farmers to ensure that the requirements of the Philippine National Standard for Organic Agriculture are followed as minimal standards of practice. No chemicals are used, no new forests are cut for production, and all things can be traced back to the farms that grow them.

The work they strive for is strongly intertwined with care and community, from the personal relationships they aim to foster to comprehending the links between the Food we eat, the future we want to shape for our children, and how our biodiversity relates to our identity as a Filipino people.

As they support the local Filipino farmers, the Good Food Co. opens a Sunday market called the Good Food Sundays.

Support Local Farmers

Good Food is a reminder for everyone to collaborate with others to guarantee that everyone gets fed. We've come together with our narrative to realize that the earth needs more than just careful consumption; it requires us to heal, care for one another, build trees, and rejuvenate streams. It takes all of us working together in the fields, kitchens, and streets to transform the world through Food.

Small-scale, family-run farms generally possess locally grown and sustainably farmed goods. These farmers are committed to environmentally friendly techniques, which means they don't use harsh chemicals or pesticides that harm the environment and your health. Instead of buying mass-manufactured produce from far away, choose locally grown produce to show your support for the farmers who produced it.

"Magnum ay 'di biro" (farming is not a joke), as the Filipino proverb says. It is not only physically difficult but also financially tricky nowadays. As a result, we must help Filipino farmworkers in whatever manner.

With all of the partnerships, movements, and laws in place for Philippine agriculture, there is a sense that the future for our Filipino farmers might be bright in the following decade.
