Make Your Bed

This first book recommendation is by Admiral William H. Mcraven’s commencement speech for the graduating class from university of Texas at Austin which he shares the ten lessons he learned when he was still training to be a Navy SEAL. Make Your Bed is a book about the simple yet crucially important habits in dealing with day to day task and challenges no matter who you are.  It highlights the effects of faithfully completing simple task in starting your day that could make a big impact all throughout until you go to sleep, and one of these simple task is making your bed in the morning. Atomic Habits

If you are struggling creating consistent and effective practice or routines, Atomic Habits by James Clear is a book you need to read. It promotes regular habits, even small or big, creates an incredible component necessary for compound growth and self-improvement. It helps the reader formulates better habits, self-control, how to stay motivated, and avoiding bad routines. Instead of setting goals, James Clear wanted to focus on one’s system and create structured methods that leads to the desired results or outcome. He also presents the reader diagrams for a more graphic and strategic approach in developing and nurturing good habits.

The Power of Habit

The Power of Habit explores the formation and what influences our habits that produce a desired result whether intended or not. The author, Charles Duhigg, also cited patterns of behavior or routines that are performed when a specific cue is received and the individual is rewarded but he contests that the pattern can be completed without having rewards or some cases modified the incentive of the action. In this way an individual can do a task with a lesser reward system with a maximum effort. Duhigg also pin pointed keystone habits that are necessary for organization that can be useful for individuals that manages people, business owners, and managerial personnel.

Deep Work

Cal Newport creates a superpower against the sophisticated distractions of the 21sth century economy and called it “Deep Work” where one is in a state of distraction-free concentration. If you are on a constant impulse to check your phone while working (which he coined a term “shallow work”) and you want to eliminate such habit, Deep Work is the book that can help you. Deep Work firstly introduces its readers the essential terms, occurrences of these destructions, and unwanted impulses or urges and then later on recommend methods and principles on how to avoid them. The main goal of this book is to hone you to work without having to easily accommodate distractions and produce high quality outputs. A must read!

Grit

Consistent passion that can withstand despite the presence of failure and adversity is what the book Grit by Angela Duckworth is all about. If you are having difficulty on how to keep the fire burning (your passion and perseverance) for your long term goals, Grit is the book that can serve as your fuel. This book makes you likely to develop your endurance for enthusiasm and consistency of your effort over a long period of time by highlighting the primary interest and purpose why you in the first place want to achieve a specific outcome.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Without a doubt, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey is a phenomenal self-help book amongst young adults due to its powerful lessons for personal improvement and has empowered millions of people for over 25 years. Up until now, this book is still at the bookshelves of bookstore and libraries and remained timely due to its lasting principles of dignity, honesty, and the its imposing equality in the book’s content. Stephen R. Covey presented a diagram synergizing all the 7 habits to give its readers a grasp of how to improve their determination, values, agreeableness, and to have a deliberate control of things. This is a must read book for 20 something that are eager to have a proactive lifestyle.

Whether you want to be in control of your life, develop a good daily routine, or practice a new hobby and excel in it, there is always a specific book that can give you guidance. To give you more light, books have an average number of 60,000 words; most people have an average reading speed of 250 words per minute. If you calculate that, you can read a book within 4 hours and if your goal is one book per week that is just only 35 minutes of reading per day.
