How to Celebrate Earth Day Inside Your Condo

Apr 22, 2022

Earth Day is an annual event that inspires action around the world to protect our planet. It’s a day that reminds us of the work we can do together to improve our environment and foster a global community that cares about the Earth.

Over the last 50 years, Earth day has been celebrated by billions of people around the world. Every 22nd of April, everyone is invited to join in promoting awareness for the health of our environment in one of the biggest environmental protest movements on the planet.  With the theme “Invest in Our Planet. What Will You Do?”, Earth Day 2022 will fall on Friday.

In honor of Earth Day 2022, we wanted to share some ideas for how you can celebrate in your condo!

There are lots of ways to celebrate Earth Day in your condo. If you do not have a green thumb, don't worry! You can still help the environment by making small changes that add up to a big difference over time. All it takes is some commitment and creativity—and maybe a little help from Mother Nature.

Use water and energy at the minimum

The first thing you can do to celebrate earth day in your condo is conserved water and energy. You can do this in many ways, but one of the most important things to consider is how much water you use in your home. Many condo communities are designed with plumbing systems that allow for water from each unit to flow into a single pipe, so it’s important to be mindful of how much water you use during showers or laundry because it will impact other residents as well. A good rule of thumb for showering is to keep it under 10 minutes, and if possible try not to use hot water unless it’s absolutely necessary especially if you have an electric water heater.

Using less water and energy is one of the most effective ways to lessen your carbon footprint. Replace your lightbulbs with more efficient and long-lasting ones, and remember to switch them off when you are not using them.

Donate or Recycle

Another way you can celebrate Earth Day in your condo and reduce waste is by recycling more frequently or donating items instead of throwing them away. For example, instead of throwing out old clothes that don’t fit anymore, why not donate them to those who are in need. Sort through clothing and household goods you no longer need and donate them at a local drop-off center, or give them to friends who can use them!

Additionally, start recycling your waste right now if you haven't already. Separating biodegradable waste from non-biodegradable waste is a key. The amount of waste you consume can be reduced by simply recycling. Recycling is a simple habit to develop, and once you've gotten into the habit, you won't have to think twice about it.

Grow your own vegetables

You don't need a lot of room to produce your own vegetables, even if you don't have a balcony in your condo. While you won't be able to grow all of the vegetables you'll need, any little bit will benefit the environment. You will not just reap what you planted, you will also save money, eat pesticide-free food, reduce your carbon footprint, and you will also develop a new hobby for yourself! Celebrate Earth Day in your condo by growing your own vegetables!

Plant a mini garden

Plants are essential for the survival of life on Earth. They help to keep the water cycle running, release oxygen, absorb carbon dioxide, and nourish animals and humans with food. One thing we can do to help the environment is to start planting. A little bit of greenery in your condo will not only add some beauty to your space, it'll also help clean indoor air by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Even if you don't have much space, you can still grow flowers or plants in containers on your balcony or deck. Plus, having plants and flowers add some color and cheer to your living space making your condo feel bright.

Go Digital

Everyone receives plenty of bills. Not only are they unpleasant to receive, but the environment also suffers because of this. Since everybody now lives through their phones, this Earth Day 2022, make the switch to paperless billing. Changing to paperless billing is simple and environmentally friendly. Also, paying your bills online is a great help in reducing fossil fuel consumption that goes into transportation.

In addition, many things are now available in digital form, including books, periodicals, paperworks, leases, photographs, and more. Every small thing can make a difference.

Switch to Ecosia

The internet is an amazing resource for doing research, connecting with people, and finding entertainment. It's also a massive drain on the earth's resources, using up power and contributing to global warming. But you can reduce your impact on the environment when you use Ecosia as your default search engine. When you search the web with Ecosia, the profits from the search ad revenue go to support tree planting programs—meaning that every time you research something online, you're actually helping plant trees! So instead of searching in Google or Safari, try searching in Ecosia instead.

Get others involved too

Creating eco-friendly habits is one approach to promoting sustainability at home, but inspiring and persuading others to join your efforts can have a bigger impact. It is not necessary to be an activist to do so. Simply, set a good example for others and spread the word. Celebrate Earth Day by getting other people involved as well. When everyone works together, we always achieve more.

This Earth Day 2022, make this time to reflect on the state of our planet, and what we can do to make it better. Although Earth Day is only one day, it’s a reminder that we should all be conscious of the environment every day. You may not realize it, there are many ways that you can contribute to making your condo eco-friendly, and the best time to do it is now!
