How to Create A Positive and Healthy Work Environment | Condo Tips

Jan 16, 2022

Imagine a workplace that constantly hires people while people constantly leave at the same pace. The company costs go to time and resources invested towards training a person who underwent through all steps of the hiring process, and yet, still leaves after a few months or in a few years. It's better to have a positive environment and it is also a great way to start the year. There are different people in a workplace, there's a short-tempered boss, an uncooperative teammate, and others. but these can be avoided. Being a short-tempered person can be avoided

There’s a great deal of introspection that needs to be done here if a company cannot keep talents. There will never be one formula to making things work. People are the most challenging to handle in business. Here are several ways to improve a working environment so that it supports the right people who will support the company in return.

Weed out whatever hampers the processes.

A 2-hour meeting every day is not always productive unless it’s about reviewing laws. A meeting needs a person to take note of everything, food, and beverages if it’s a company’s practice to eat while on a huddle—don’t get this wrong, food is fine but in this case, it is cost. So people in that meeting better make all their time worth it.

Papers? Does everything need to be on paper? Signatures are a must in most cases, proposals that need to be distributed to the board, and some important documents. Otherwise, nobody wants to dig into piles—it adds unnecessary stress to people when a database can be available

Unnecessary deadlines. Yes, this is in the books! Some “finish by tomorrow” deadlines are unnecessary. In fact, it causes employees to work faster than the normal pace resulting in the decrease of quality of work, increased stress, and health problems

These are just a few processes that waste people’s time and are counterproductive, so to encourage this practice, continue finding ways to make things easier. Reward people who constantly try something new instead of only concentrating on punishing mistakes.

Invest in personality tests.

There are better things to spend the company’s money on. Exactly! Personality tests are constantly being improved so that can be a reliable tool to understand people better. It saves companies loads of money to hire the right people to do the work. It also increases company revenue to know what could keep people from leaving, what makes them happy, what’s stressful for each of them—these questions are answered by a series of personality tests.

An introvert might be stressed being forced to dance during a Christmas Party—shots fired! While the extroverted souls in the office slowly die of doing paperwork all day.

Gossips? It’s 2022!

Gossip is defined as poorly substantiated, an insignificant conversation that is primarily about individuals. Go on, give it another read.

A condo living is perfect for not having to worry about the next-door neighbor criticizing the front yard like it’s a profitable business to talk about. But back to the office, gossips stress out the people who are the subject. Instead of concentrating on the demands of the job, here’s the unnecessary challenge of getting along with co-workers and making peace with the fact that they talk behind their backs.

Hate the job, not the person.

Imagine trying to access information and the IT person refused to unlock a part of the database.

One of the leaders in the company is so much more impenetrable and says harsh and honest words while another leader is charming and easy to negotiate with—do you need to choose the nicer one all the time and curse the other? Here’s why it’s imperative that respect towards leadership should still be practiced.

Some workplaces are designed to have a devil’s advocate. Someone who question’s rules, and decisions all the time. If a decision-made is being scrutinized and questioned, it doesn’t always mean that these are put-down words. These people encourage others to think more, innovate more, and take their stance firmer.

Normalize apologies or no apologies from leaders.

Understand that if a leader always apologizes, people lose respect and in turn, any policies that are enforced will not take effect properly. While a leader who never apologizes is just impossible. There are incredibly smart individuals, yet they still make mistakes that warrant a simple apology. To create a friendly and healthy working environment, it matters that a leader has a good level of self-introspection to influence people better.

Health Insurance.

It’s often missed, but health insurance that can cover beneficiaries like children and relatives helps people be at ease with their families’ health so that they can continue to function, instead of seeing them scrounging for financial resources to sustain hospitalization needs. Problems in a family member’s health cause absenteeism, thus, costing the team some time to take over the tasks.

Collaborate and communicate.

There is no need to work alone in everything. It’s called leverage. It should be highly encouraged to create a place for people to be honest about any mistakes made, reports that were submitted late, penalties that need to be settled, and more that require disclosure.

Normalize having each other’s back. Just a simple statement that says “Let me know if you need anything else” could go a long way to making people comfortable approaching directly approaching anybody in the room to get information that will help them in their jobs.

Have fun!

What other way to do it? If most works from home, trivia nights with prizes are easy to organize. Or chill, a bottle or two of beer is fine, and just talk about things other than work. Create a space for employees to have fun. Surely, a company can spare a playroom that can be enjoyed during their break time—it makes them feel welcomed and it shows care towards their wellbeing.

These tips allow people to realize that boundaries keep friendships at work healthy. Ideally, these things should be basic for all companies and should be known by all people. But change is never easy, one just has to be willing to make some adjustments for the better. Life is not so hard that way.

In this time of pandemic that most people are working from home, it is also important to create a home office that will make you more productive. Why not invest in a condominium for a safe and sound environment?
