Sep 20, 2023

Getting or renewing a driver's license in the Philippines can be a cumbersome process. The long lines, the constant reminders to bring the right documents, and the waiting time are just some of the things that make it a hassle.

But, did you know, that living in a condo in Manila can actually make things easier when it comes to getting or renewing your driver's license? There are the busiest LTO branches and offices near some of the city's most popular National Capital Region (NCR) condo buildings. In this blog, we've compiled a list of LTO branches and offices to help you save time and effort.

What Is A Land Transportation Office?

LTO stands for Land Transportation Office. These are the government offices responsible for issuing driver's licenses and registering motor vehicles in the Philippines. All LTO branches in Metro Manila have the same services, but they vary in terms of size and the number of personnel.

What Is A LTO Driver's License?

A LTO driver's license is a card issued by the Land Transportation Office. It allows an individual to drive a motor vehicle on public roads in the Philippines. To get or renew your driver's license, you need to submit certain documents and pass a series of tests conducted by the LTO.

Getting A Valid Foreign Driver's License

Foreigners who are staying in the Philippines for more than 90 days can apply for a Philippine driver's license. To do this, they need to submit certain documents such as their valid foreign driver’s license, passport or visa, and an official receipt from the LTO office. They also have to pass a written exam and an eye test before their application can be approved.

Where To See Expiry Date On LTO Driver's License?

The expiry date of your driver’s license is printed on the back of your card. It can be found at the bottom left corner, under the words “Expiry Date”. According to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued an order for the automatic extension of expired driver's licenses.

According to a memorandum, the validity of these licenses will be extended until April 2, 2024, or until an adequate supply of plastic cards is obtained, whichever comes first. LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II clarified that this extension applies to licenses that expired on April 3 this year, as it coincided with the beginning of the plastic card shortage.

This automatic extension removes the need for individuals with expiring licenses within the covered dates to physically visit the LTO office for driver's license renewal. Old or expired licenses will remain valid until a new plastic card is issued. Previously, the LTO extended the validity of driver's licenses until October 31.

How To Renew Your LTO Driver's License

To renew your driver's license, you need to visit the nearest LTO office and submit the following documents:

  • Original valid driver's license
  • Medical Certificate (formal letter issued by a doctor)
  • Two 2x2 ID photos
  • Official receipt to pay the driver's license renewal fee

You will also need to pass a written exam and an eye test. After you have passed these tests, your new driver's license will be issued.

What Is The Land Transportation Management System?

LTMS or the Land Transportation Management System is a system that allows people to process their driver's license applications and renewals without having to leave their homes. The LTO has created an online portal where users can register, pay fees, take exams, and view the status of their application. It eliminates the need for them to go to an LTO office in person.

How To Know If My Driver's License Application Was Approved?

Once you have completed the application process, you will receive notification of your driver's license status through email. This email will contain instructions on how to validate and print your driver's license. It is important that you follow these instructions closely, as failure to do so could result in a delay or even denial of your application.
