Manila as Top 34 Best Cities in the World

Jul 25, 2022

How lovely and exciting it is to live in a city that does not just provide all the access you need but is also hailed as one of the best cities in the world. Thus, we are very proud of our very own Manila- our country's national city.

We all know that our country is the Pearl of the Orient. It is because we have thousands of islands surrounded by many beaches and sceneries that are inviting for people around the globe. But isn't it more prideful to know that we are now being recognized for the nature we preserve and the cities we are building. Most significantly for our top most populated city known for its diversity and being central to nationwide commercial activities- Manila.

Time Out has listed the Philippine capital of Manila as one of the best cities in the world for 2022. This is listed according to their fifth annual index for city dwellers. Timeout is an international blog site that features a lot of different places, destinations, and activities around the world.

The respondents for the said poll were about 20,000 users, and they were asked about their post-pandemic activities, from restaurants and barred sesh to their cultural aspects and nightlife. Some of the key factors for the index were community spirit, resilience, walkability, good public transport and safety, and sustainability.

Our country became more proud of having Manila as ranked no. 34, between the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur and Greece's capital Athens. Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland, Chicago in the United States, Colombia's Medellín, and Amsterdam in the Netherlands made up the Top 5 out of 54.

It is also a little funny that the write-up for Manila said that it is also the overpopulation to traffic jams which the locals have embraced and enjoyed in the city if one that made it famous. It also said that the legacy of all our different colonizers, such as the Chinese, Spanish, and Americans, that influenced Manila's life makes it an underrated hub for culture and art, which showcases its different iconic customs and cuisine. Manila also topped as the No. 3 most resilient city in their index with 60%, and not even one of all the respondents described the city as harmful and rude. Instead, it was known and admired by many for the thriving infectious, beautiful smiles of its people.

Because of this result, Manila is safe and beautiful. It also received 78% positivity regarding its nightlife and party scenes.

It also acknowledged that Manila stayed afloat amid the lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic – wherein measures like "cruel liquor bans and the demand for space gear-like face shields" were enforced – after vaccination was introduced.

Time Out also encourages its clients to visit Manila because it "really is thriving again" with the presence of "high-end shopping malls, eclectic contemporary art galleries, and the edgy music venues of the south."

With this development, the Manila city government recognized former mayor Isko Moreno for his leadership, which led to the city's inclusion in the Time Out list of best cities.

In a resolution authored by Manila Councilors Joel Villanueva and Ernesto Isip Jr., the city council declared that Moreno "exemplified the brand of political will and commitment to solving the seemingly insurmountable problems and challenges long neglected by previous administrations."

It says, "This never-before-seen political dedication, steadfastness, and staunchness has resulted in meaningful changes in the City of Manila in terms of poverty alleviation, delivery of social services, people-centered infrastructure projects, education, and health care,"

We can say that Mayor Moreno earned the brand since he did a great job rehabilitating Manila. Everyone knows that Mayor Moreno was elected in 2019 and had just started his period as mayor when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country in 2020. Still, the challenges didn't stop him from realizing the best Manila could offer.

Programs and projects were enforced under his term like the construction of the Bagong Ospital ng Maynila, Tondominium and Binondominium and Base community socialized housing projects; renovation of Manila Zoo; the Manila COVID-19 Field Hospital, and the digitalization of transactions in the city government.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Moreno thanked the city government – led by his allies, Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and Vice Mayor Yul Servo-Nieto – for the honor.

There are really a lot of reasons why it is great to live in Manila. Aside from the access to a lot of offices of the biggest nationwide and international companies that made the area so good for job opportunities, there are also a lot of places you can go to recreate and breathe and eat and shop. Almost 90% of the biggest malls in the country are in Manila or just a drive away. Business owners and entrepreneurs always choose Manila as their target market for this place's very diverse clients and customers. From food stores to boutiques to high-rising malls and condos in Manila, you'll surely be just a walk or click away from whatever you need if you live there.

With these, it is more exciting to be living and try a life of being in Manila. With a lot of high-rise condo units that will surely keep us safer, we can not just have a vacation there but also migrate for good if we opt to.

But, it is not just the honor of Manila City or its government. It is also a great accolade for the country to once again wave a banner of how beautiful it is to love here. And, of course, it gives a lot more pride to all our constituents to live in such a safe and happy place where you can enjoy the food we offer and the customs and traditions we are preserving. Pearl of the Orient stands now for the beaches we have and the comfortable life we all create together.
