Ultimate Guide to Organizing Your Closet in Condo

Feb 23, 2022

We've started spending a lot of time working from home. We've become rather familiar with our own clutter. With the mess of lives, politics, the economy, and much more stuff hanging on the balance, focusing on something you can control, such as your closet clutter, feels like a rare luxury. Organizing your closet is an unquestionably fantastic use of spare time.

For a fresh new season, now is the ideal time to freshen your drawers and cabinets.

Organizing a Closet

Let's face it: closets are notoriously difficult to keep organized and knowing how to organize your wardrobe may be frustrating, especially when you know that after a couple of dress-ups, you'll be back to square one.

We've all been there: you have a closet full of clothing yet feel like you have nothing to wear. That's because, no matter how many items you have, you'll always struggle to see what's in your wardrobe if it's not organized properly, making it difficult to style outfits.

Keeping a well-organized closet will always be a work in progress because you're always adding new items to your wardrobes and dressing up every day, but there are several things you can do to assure you never have to spend more than a few minutes organizing your clothing again.

Below are some tips on how to organize a closet. Check it out because nothing feels better than a tidy and organized home.

How to Organize a Closet

Empty and Clean your Closet

The most essential step in organizing a closet is to remove everything and thoroughly inspect and clean it. You'll want to check for evidence of dampness or insects and rodents, both of which can cause serious harm to your belongings.

Make sure the floor of your closet is clean and clear of any dirt or trash. Is there enough light in your room? If you want to optimize your storage capacity, you should be able to view every square inch clearly. Small and fragile things can easily become misplaced in dark spaces.

Now is the time to make a truly fresh start with a thorough cleaning. This entails meticulously cleaning the walls and hanging rods, rigorous dusting or mopping the floor.

Toss, Donate, or Keep

Now is the moment to go through your wardrobe and trim the herd. Most likely, you have products that don't fit, require excessive repair, are out of style, or simply don't suit your style anymore.

Items that are beyond repair and cannot be recycled should be discarded.

Donate goods that are still in good condition and may be appreciated by others.

Keep the ones you care about.

Getting rid of unnecessary items will allow you to better care for the items you love and avoid congestion, which is a surefire way to return to chaos.

Put the clothing that made the cut into groupings, such as slacks, shirts, skirts, evening attire, and so on, once you've discarded the garbage and delivered your donations. For the time being, keep your accessories in their own category.

Then select how you want your clothes to be organized. Sort your items by color, style, or whichever method you like. If you wear the same pair of shoes all year, you can organize them by season or by like with like.

Store Your Clothes Properly

The third step is to know how to correctly store your clothes, both to protect them and to make it easier to locate them quickly.

  • Suits, dresses, blouses, and other linen garments should be hung.
  • T-shirts, tank tops, jeans, sweaters, and yoga pants should all be folded.
  • Overall, thick wooden hangers are the best. Although if you have a small closet, streamlining hangers not only improves the appearance of your wardrobe but also improves its functionality. You can use slim, streamlined hangers to help you to fit more on each hanging rod without feeling crowded.
  • Pants and skirts are best stored on hangers with clips.
  • Delicates like silk and satin should be hung on velvet-covered or cushioned hangers.

To give your closet a clean, pleasant look, here's a tip from Marie Kondo, who is the world's most organized person: Hang everything in the same way, with longer things on the left and shorter items on the right to form an upward sloping line at the bottom.

Keep your Frequently Used Clothes at Eye Level

Keep the clothes you regularly wear in the center of your closet or somewhere you can simply pull them out to wear without causing the arrangement to get disorganized.

Make the Most of What You Got

Use Space-saving techniques to help increase the storage capacity of your closet and to make staying organized more manageable.

Space-Saving Techniques for Organizing a Small Closet

Try some of these space-saving techniques to make extra room in your closet:

Rolling

When packing your bag for a trip, you may already have tried rolling your clothes. This also saves space in your drawers, and it also works great for T-shirts, tanks, and other smaller pieces of apparel.

Hanging Storage

If you don't have a lot of shelf space, try hanging storage alternatives for everything from your clothing to your accessories and shoes.

Vacuum Bags

If you're storing outfits you don't wear often or want to put away for the season, vacuum bags are a good option. You can keep items in a fraction of the area once the air is sucked out of these bags.

Seasonal Storage

Rotate your out-of-season clothing out of your main closet. You may keep them in a guest with good ventilation. If you don't have enough room, put them in the back of the closet.

Under Bed Storage

Use under-bed storage bins for off-season things or anything you don't use very often. This is especially helpful if you live in a small apartment and need to save some floor space.

Shoe Organizers

If you're a sneakerhead or just have a lot of shoes, using the door is a good method to keep them tidy and off the floor. Shoe racks, which can properly exhibit your favorite soles, can help you avoid shoe piles at the bottom of your closet.

Note that if organizing a closet sounds overwhelming, don't feel pressured to complete it all at once. For some, the process may be therapeutic, but for others, it may feel like a tremendous task. It's totally OK to work on one portion of your closet at a time, then move on to the next.

It may appear like clearing closet chaos for good is an impossible endeavor, but it is actually pretty achievable. Clean, tidy, and devise a strategy, and you'll soon have beautifully organized and refreshing closets for you and your family's clothes.
