5 Easy Tips in De-cluttering Your Condo Unit this 2021

Jan 27, 2021

Out with the old, and in with the New Year! Is it not best to welcome the new year by letting go of all the negativities that 2020 has brought upon everyone? One effective way of doing this is by throwing away or donating all the things that add clutter to our condo space and our life.

Imagine coming home after a long day’s work to a condo unit that is clean, welcoming and well-organized - it feels good, right? Knowing that your condo unit is not just a box but a home will help enhance your well-being.

De-cluttering your condo is not just a way to maintain appearance or to make things look organized, it also comes with several life benefits and can do wonders for your health and wellness. De-cluttering is about having less stress, less to clean, less to organize, and maybe even to the extent of less debt.

Most condo developments in Metro Manila have studio units with floor area ranging from 18sqm to 30sqm. In a studio unit, like in any tiny apartment, every square meter counts. We know that there are many functions that we need to fit into a space this small and that we need to be creative to be able to do it all.

Because of this challenge, the use of condo furniture has evolved. For example, beds are mainly used for sleeping but because of space constraints, some beds are made with pull-out drawers for additional storage. There are also a variety of multifunctional furniture such as shelf floor lamp, storage stool, and sofa bed among others.

Aside from using multipurpose furniture to optimally furnish your space-limited condo unit, you should also know how to make your condo space clean and clutter-free. Here are 5 easy tips in de-cluttering your condo unit.

Know when it is time to de-clutter

How do you know when it is time to actually start de-cluttering? If and when you arrive in the condo and you feel uneasy and uncomfortable, it might probably be the right time to de-clutter.

If it has been a daily occurrence to spend hours looking for things, from your comb to keys to important documents, it’s a sign that it’s time to pare down your things. Throw away anything that does not work anymore or which does not serve a useful purpose in your life.

Plan

Your “D-Day” or De-Cluttering-Day does not necessarily need to be done in a single day. It can actually be done on a series of days to a semi-regular basis. You can also create a checklist so you can visualize this de-cluttering project. You may also take a before and after photo to see your progress! Remember to plan it out!

Divide and Conquer

You can start from the innermost part of the condo unit then work outwards. For example, you can start from your bedroom, and then the living room, the bathroom and then the kitchen; do whatever works for you. Using this method can ensure that no stone will be left unturned; everything will be covered.

Stick to the essentials

One effective method you should take note of is the Four Box Method. You just have to take four boxes and label them with ‘Trash,’ ‘Donate,’ ‘Keep,’ and ‘Relocate’ and then slowly fill those boxes.

No matter how unimportant you think an item is, do not skip it.  Remember to just keep the important things, toss expired products, donate old clothes, and stick to your checklist.

Reward yourself

Now that you have channeled the inner Elsa in you, and you finally let them go, it is time to reward yourself and everyone who has helped you reach the finish line. Celebrate small wins and this small milestone; treat yourself in a drink or two! You deserve it!

In the end, everyone has their own idea of a clean condo space. But think about it, having a clean condo unit makes maneuvering easier, finding things is no longer a chore, and coming home is more enjoyable. After all, nothing feels more rewarding than to have a happier, healthier and overall calmer condo space you can come home to.
