Condo Living: Ways to Transform Holiday Leftovers

Jan 11, 2022

Holidays in the Philippines will always be about celebrations and throwing a feast. Noche Buena and Media Noche are two of the most awaited festivities, where all family members get to have their own roles to make these more a lot more colorful and joyful.

Food overflows during holiday celebrations because cooking is one of the love languages of each household and it gives a sense of home to the family – may it be in a regular home, with condo living, or in massive Filipino mansions. Filipinos have fear of not having enough food for their guests and family, which often results in so much food on the table during the holiday season.

Every after feasting, Filipinos have two problems in mind: who will wash the dishes and what will they do with all the leftovers, most especially with the lechon that is significant in every Filipino’s banquet. With all the food all over the fridge after the merry-making, there is just too much to put into waste. But Filipinos do not just let all these leftovers rot and put them to waste. Condo design is not the only thing people can revamp, holiday leftovers can also have a revamp, too! They always have ways to transform their leftovers hams, lechon, pasta, and other holiday food into a new sumptuous dish. Instead of just reheating the same dish over and over again, here are some ways how to transform holiday leftovers:

Just shred the meats.

Shredded meats have so much use in any dish. If there are fried chicken leftovers from the feasting, this would be a great element to your dish – it goes well beyond the classic. Just get a fork and shred the chicken, and experiment a sumptuous dish with this. Here is a list of some recipes that can help Filipinos transform leftover chicken into a new dish.

Chicken Salad

Cut lettuce into strips, cucumber, and carrots lengthwise, then shred the chicken. Combine the vegetables and chicken, add some salt, then toss it with peanut vinaigrette. Make sure to put this on a beautiful bowl and have a photo taken on your favorite spot of your condo design.

Create a Sandwich Spread

This is also a creative activity with the children inside the condo, which will help them have fun with condo living. To start, just put the shredded chicken in a bowl. Add some mayonnaise, salt, and pepper, then mix it all. Get two slices of bread or some hot pandesal, then spread it in between. Get some coffee, tea, or juice, and breakfast is already served!

Top it with Garlic Rice

Together with the leftover rice, create a sinangag, or garlic rice, mix it with some leftover vegetables, then top it with the shredded chicken.

Cook Lechon in different ways.

Filipino celebration is not really complete without a lechon. Most of the time, it is not fully consumed during the night of celebration. Hence, Filipinos love to transform it the next day in order to enjoy it again. So here are some ways to cook lechon:

Lechon Paksiw is the default recipe

Throw in the seasonings and spices and add the leftover meat. The key to lechon paksiw’s success lies in its sauce. Simmer in the lechon sauce – a sweet and sour sauce, then lechon paksiw is ready to serve.

Adobo is always a way to go

Any kind of lechon or meat leftover can turn into Filipino adobo – may it be a saucy adobo, dry adobo, or adobo in white vinegar. Just cook it with soy sauce, vinegar, laurel leaves, pepper, garlic, and onion.

Try making a Lechon Sizzling Sisig

The post-holiday drinking session is expected in every Filipino home. Hence, a lechon sizzling sisig is best to be served on their table. Cook the crunchy skin of lechon and put an egg on top, then it already gives a flavorful sisig.

Serve it as Sinigang

Sinigang is one of the staple food of Filipinos. If they prefer eating soup while enjoying their condo living, then sinigang is the go-to recipe. Just mix it with eggplant, beans, kangkong, and gabi, then accompany it with sour taste soup seasoning.

Ham and Queso de Bola as snacks

Holiday favorites – ham and queso de bola, also needs some makeover!

Make a Creamy Carbonara

If there is leftover pasta from the holiday feasting, give it a makeover by adding some eggs for a creamy sauce, then sprinkle it with ham and queso de bola.

Make your Nacho extraordinary

Create a salsa using leftover ham and queso de bola. This will be a delectable option for a snack that can be packed anywhere – for where, for a picnic, for another get-together, or for running errands such as shopping, searching for ready for occupancy condo, or paying the bills. This can be a snack anyone can do and anyone could bring somewhere.

Don’t waste your rice, add some fun

Chao Fan is a classic Chinese dish that is easy to make. Just toss your leftover rice, add the vegetables, get some leftover meat, season it and it is ready to eat. Plate it with some leftover shanghai, reheat it and cut it into tiny pieces. This can also be best paired with any meat left from the holiday feasting.

Whatever holiday leftover is left in the fridge, get it and experiment with some recipe, and add some twist to it. This is also to make you not feel tired eating the same food all over again for the next few days. It takes a curious mind and a wide imagination to transform holiday leftovers into a sumptuous meal. Just play around with your leftovers and garnish them with anything available in the refrigerator. Always make sure that there should be no holiday leftover left behind, or this will just make your condo living terrible with all the leftover stinky smells. Create a game plan on how to prepare all those leftover food for a week-long meal.

Share the cooked dishes with neighbors or family members, or just invite them to come over to eat. This will also be a great way to extend the celebration of holidays and enjoy condo living with all the food prepared. It’s always good to extend and share the love even after the holiday celebrations!
