Deep Cleaning Tips: 7 Places In Your Condo You Forget to Clean

Apr 02, 2023

When you walk into a room, you can usually tell what needs to be cleaned. It is important to note, however, that we should not limit our attention to these visible areas! There could be hidden nooks and crannies that we're overlooking. Remember that a beautiful home is one that is clean and well-organized. Here are seven places in your condo or house that you should inspect and clean today.

7 Places in Your Condo or House That You Often Forget to Deep Clean

Top and Under Furniture and Appliances

Deeper cleaning of your appliances is a great way to make sure they continue to run properly.

Vacuum behind beds, fabric seats, and other large furniture since dust can still collect there. Small appliances and hard surfaces also serve as good dust-hiding places. TV screens, laptops, music systems, and other household devices are dust magnets. Make sure to deep clean them with a damp sponge, a damp microfiber cloth, or cleaners made specifically for screen surfaces.

Garbage Disposal and Kitchen Sink

Garbage disposals need to be cleaned more frequently than just with water to keep odors at bay. First, shut off the disposal's power. After that, add a mixture of half a cup of vinegar and half a cup of baking soda and let it sit. Although the mixture will bubble, a sink stopper can be used to cover it. Rinse it with hot water when it stops fizzing.

As for cleaning stainless steel kitchen sinks and drainage, even though drains are smelly and full of unsanitary bacteria, most homeowners only consider them when they pile up. In order to adequately clean them, fill the sink with water so that it can be plunged a few times. Disinfect your counters often and examine your faucets as well. Use soapy water and a stiff brush or toothbrush to scrub your faucets once a week to keep these deposits to a minimum.

Shower Curtain and Behind the Toilet

Shower curtains collect soap scum and occasionally even mildew after frequent use. Wash them by throwing them into the washing machine along with a couple of towels on the gentle cycle. Wipe if you can't wash.

This may be the least favorite spot to clean, but you can't forget the back of the toilet bowl, where filth typically accumulates. Put on a pair of latex gloves, spray a disinfectant over the back portion, and then gently scrub it clean with a cloth or paper towels. Use a scrub brush for stubborn spots on the bathroom floors and glass cleaner on the mirrors.

Ceilings

A house or condo's design can be enhanced and the appeal of the entire paint job increased by occasionally cleaning the ceiling. To remove dust mites and spider webs, a disposable duster with an extensible handle is your best option. If you don't have one, use a clean, dry microfiber cloth and fasten it with a rubber band to a broom or mop handle if you can't reach the ceiling.

Check the ceiling fans and light fixtures, too, while you're up there.

Walls and baseboards

Dust and grime can adhere to both horizontal and vertical surfaces. Begin at the top of the wall and work your way down with a duster that traps particles. Finish your wall cleaning by focusing on the baseboards. In humid rooms like kitchens and bathrooms, you'll probably need to wipe down the baseboards with a damp cloth because the moisture has turned dirt into soil that sticks to the surface.

Windows and Doors

Cleaning your windows for a clear view is a given, but spend a little more time on your windowsill. Curtains and blinds easily collect pollen and dirt, so they should be cleaned once a season. To remove the grime, vacuum them or wipe them down with a wet cloth. Even better, if the curtains are machine washable, throw them in the washing machine.

Dirt, leaves, gravel, and dead insects can accumulate around your doorway, not to mention scuffs and dirt smears that can accumulate around your door frame.

Lots of harmful microorganisms can live on your door, particularly the knob, which many people use and touch. The worst part is that people forget to clean the knob or handle because strangers or visitors may touch it.

Simply wet a cloth with warm water and wipe it off before applying a few drops of dish soap and wiping it again to clean this overlooked spot in your condo.

Cleaning Supplies

Isn't that ironic? It may be difficult to believe that your house cleaning tools require cleaning, but failing to do so can result in germs further disseminating throughout your home. Scrub your brooms, sponges, rubber gloves, and toilet brushes. Weekly, shake out your dusters and wash your cleaning cloths.

Condo or house cleaning hack

It is recommended that you clean your space at least once a week so that dirt, impurities, and unpleasant odors can be removed immediately. If you're having problems, we've got you covered! Here are some house cleaning hacks to get you started:

Always declutter first.

If you truly want to declutter your condo unit, you must discard items that have no value. Because condo space is limited, there's no reason to keep something around that you haven't used in a decade. Once you've finished decluttering, make sure you don't start collecting unnecessary items to avoid further accumulation.

Top to Bottom, In to Out

You should always begin cleaning an area or object from the top and work your way down. Any dirt that you kick loose will naturally fall toward the areas that need to be cleaned. Finally, you can clean up any loose bits and know you haven't missed a speck. Start the same task from the inside of the room and work your way out the door for a more efficient approach!

Use microfiber cloths.

Microfiber cloths contain extremely thin microfibers that can remove up to 99% of bacteria from surfaces. Microfiber cloths remove bacteria, mold, pollen, and other substances from surfaces very effectively. When properly cared for, they can withstand hundreds of washings, absorb seven times what they weigh in liquid, and are allergen-free.

Baking soda is a big help.

Baking soda can also be used as a cleaning solution to freshen and clean a seemingly endless number of areas in your home. It's a powerful (but gentle) abrasive and a natural deodorizer, making it useful in a variety of cleaning situations and stain removal. Baking soda, when mixed with white vinegar and water, can be used for a variety of household tasks. (However, it is not suitable for cleaning everything!)

Make it easier with a deep cleaning checklist.

Details are everything when it comes to condo cleaning. When you take the time to clean the areas of your home that are more difficult to reach, you will notice that it makes your home feel more tidy and welcoming. Create a cleaning schedule to get started. A deep cleaning checklist is a list of regular cleaning tasks that must be completed in order to thoroughly clean a space, so having one is essential if you don't want to miss a spot while tidying up your condo!
