How To Set Effective New Year's Goals For 2022 | Condo Tips

Dec 05, 2021

Another year is about to end, and a new chapter of lives will soon begin to unfold. And as you celebrate the new year to come, it’s also the time to set new goals or just recommit yourselves to your same old resolutions. Who knows, maybe this year you will really get to stick with your goals and finally achieve them.

Setting goals every year somehow gives everyone hope of all the possible opportunities and blessings that could come your way. But as people face the reality of life, some goals are just too hard to achieve especially when people come to terms with unexpected events. But there’s no reason to be hard on yourself, after all in the process of trying to achieve your goals, you have made progress and made yourself better.

Goal setting is simply the process of decisively coming up with an objective that you wish to achieve and coming with a plan to work on it. Just as hopeful as people get at the very start; the problem comes in during the process of being consistent and sticking with the plan. But hopefully this year, with a more thorough planning and a simpler day to day effort, you’ll be able to get closer to your goals or even better yet achieve it.

Now, the question is, how do you set up a new goal and really commit to it?

Find your purpose or reason

Looking and identifying the reason or the purpose why you want to achieve your goals, gives you an idea of what result you want to get. You can start doing this by taking your time to reflect about the things that happened to you this year or the previous years. Here are some points to reflect on:

  • Strengths or achievements this year
  • Weaknesses and the things you wish to improve on
  • What are the things that interested you and want to start doing?
  • Do you have any dreams that you really want to pursue?

After reflecting, you can now see the possible goals that you want to pursue. But take note not it can be a long list especially when you really spend a longer time reflecting. With that, you can list down and rate your goals according to its importance in your life or how much you want it. By then, it will be easier for you to streamline your list according to your priorities.

Make it S.M.A.R.T. Goals

Goals can either be short term or long term goals, but whichever it is, it should always be S.M.A.R.T.

S.M.A.R.T. goals are the criteria that can help you to decide whether a goal is something that is achievable within your means or not. It stands for:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Realistic
  • Time-bound

Basically, all you have to do is reassess all the things that you have written on the first step and see if that goal achieved all the criteria. Also, take note that it is very important for you to align your goals to the reason or purpose you have discovered in the first step.

Create your Growth Plan

This idea of creating a Growth Plan was from John Maxwell’s famous book: Your Roadmap for Success. This book is all about giving the readers a new perspective of the true meaning of success. For him, success is not a destination but rather a journey that you will take your whole life.

Here are some tips from the book on how you can make your own Growth plan

  1. Identify three to five areas that you desire to grow
  2. Look for useful materials and incorporate them in your plan
  3. Make it a goal to read 12 books and listen to 52 tapes per year
  4. Do it daily

If you already have created a list of your S.M.A.R.T. Goals, you can now further simplify your goals to 3 to 5 priorities that you really want to grow this year. After that, you can create a timeline on when to do this. According to the book, it will be more effective if you do it an hour a day for five days a week. After that, find useful materials like books, podcasts, online seminars, short courses, etc. that will help you in improving in your journey to growth.

Here are some ideas on what areas you can focus on:

  • Financial goals
  • Relationship goals
  • Spiritual goals
  • Leadership goals
  • Personal growth
  • Work goals
  • Health and fitness goals

Sample Schedule with materials:

  • Monday- Financial Goals
    • Read a book about handling finances
    • Attend seminar on real estate investing
    • Listen to podcast about saving
  • Tuesday- Relationship
    • Read self-help book about relationship
    • Have your mental health checked by a professional
    • Spend time with loved ones
    • Attend seminar on how you can start investing in a home for your family like condo living
  • Wednesday- Leadership
    • Read Leadership book
    • Listen to Podcast about leadership
    • Attend webinars
    • Mentoring
  • Thursday- Career
    • Enroll and study short courses
    • Invest in certifications
    • Attend trainings
  • Friday- Spiritual
    • Start devotional prayer
    • Do yoga
    • Meditate or reflect

To make it more extra and more official, you can write it down in your working table or just put it in your journal or planner so that you can easily be reminded of your goals. This will serve as a guide for you to be consistent in your growth plan.

Evaluate yourself

When you finally get onboard with your own growth plan, you can now start evaluating yourself. One of the best ways to do that is through journaling or having documentation on what you are doing. You can also maximize the use of social media to see how much you have progressed in your journey towards achieving your goals.

You can also schedule your re-evaluation every week or month depending on what you can fit with your regular schedule. In this way, it will be easier for you to assess even the smallest progress you have made. You can also adjust your Growth Plan schedule depending on the reality of your day-to-day life. This will help you to avoid getting overwhelmed and ending up not doing anything

Celebrate small wins

Lastly, you must celebrate! The reason for this is to remind you that whatever progress you have made, even if it seems small to you or to others, anything is worth celebrating for. After all the work you have done, you deserve to reward yourself with things that can make you happy. In this way, you help yourself to stay motivated and have something to look forward to.

Also, don’t forget to rest and take care of yourself. Not all days will be productive but as long as you pursue the journey of trying to get better, you are doing a good job.

Goals really vary from one person to another, but no matter what your goals are, investing in yourself and the home you are living is something you should always prioritize. One way of investing is in condo living where you can set condo design your own space depending on your liking. In this way, you let yourself have your own sanctuary where you can just be yourself and go on with your journey towards having a better life.
