Top 10 Netflix Shows To Watch In Your Condo

Oct 06, 2021

With streaming proving to be one of the top entertainment sources for people in the country, more and more people are tuning in on Netflix due to its sleek, ad-free, and easy-to-navigate UI with thousands of shows that you can watch instantly through your phone or your Smart TV. Aside from looking at your window to take a break and have a breather, here are some of the most popular series and movies that you should watch right now:

Midnight Mass

Horror juggernaut Mike Flanagan, fresh from his success in directing 2019’s Gerald’s Game and the critically acclaimed series The Haunting of Bly Manor, he’s back to deliver another chilling story in Midnight Mass. Headlined by Zach Gilford and Flanagan’s spouse Kate Siegel (who did a fantastic performance as the protagonist in Hush), the plot is about an island community whose arrival of a charismatic priest brings sudden miracles, mysteries, and a renewed faith to the town. If you’re in for a horror story that’s keen on building atmosphere and believable character arcs, this series is the right choice for you to watch in your condo.

Brand New Cherry Flavor

If you’re down for something different and campy, Nick Antosca and Lenore Zion’s homage to 80’s slasher flick with a dash of compelling drama is about a first-time director (Rosa Salazar) that recently moved to Los Angeles to shoot her very first film, a colleague’s betrayal sends her dream project into a living nightmare as she fights her way through zombies, contract killers, supernatural kittens, and a mysterious tattoo artist who has the ability to put hexes to people for fun-- Lisa needs to uncover some of her forgotten secrets from the past in order to escape the hellish nightmare she’s experiencing. The plot might seem incoherent but the show tells you otherwise: in the same vein as David Lynch and Nicholas Winding Refn films, some shows are made to wake up any dormant emotion you didn’t know you have.

Sweet Tooth

If you’re planning to have a movie night in your condo with your loved ones, Sweet Tooth might be the best choice for you. It’s wholesome and suitable for most ages matched with superb writing and has some edge to keep you invested. Set in a post-apocalyptic fantasy world, Sweet Tooth is about a half-human, half-deer hybrid boy who travels around America with a hardened protector-- searching for a fresh start despite the ruins of what was once a prospering country. Child actor Christian Convery headlines the show with his weighted, yet subtle performance as Gus. Season 2 is on the way, so that’s additional good news for fans of this series.

The Queen’s Gambit

Despite being released way back in 2020, this miniseries remains as one of the most popular shows here in the country as of September 29 of this year. I mean, who wouldn’t resist Anya Taylor-Joy’s magnetic performance as Beth Harmon, an orphaned chess prodigy who struggles with addiction in a quest to become the greatest chess player that the world had ever seen during the Cold War era. If that plot synopsis doesn’t make you watch the series right now, you’re in for a treat. Fantastic performances? Check. Accurate time period costume design? Check. More accurate set design? Also, check. A tight script? Absolutely. The Queen’s Gambit was heralded as Netflix’s best show of 2020.

The Umbrella Academy

Renewed for a new season, Gerard Ba and My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way’s vision of a different breed of superheroes in this show, anchored by a stellar cast like Elliot Page and Robert Sheehan, this show is still popular among young viewers and young-at-heart alike because of its compelling story, whimsical characters, endlessly quotable lines of dialogue and fantastic set designs. The plot centers around the Hargreeves, who reunited after the death of their adopted father to investigate his murder, and along the way, they might face a possible apocalypse.

The Witcher

Henry Cavill stars as a mutated hunter slaying a bunch of monsters, while he desperately struggles to find his way in a world that has people who are more ruthless than the actual beasts? Consider us invested. Based on the book series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski.

Money Heist (La Casa De Papel)

“Bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao!” Five seasons later, Money Heist is still going strong around the world, including the Philippines. It’s a thrilling drama about a group of criminals gathered together by the mysterious figure known as The Professor, to rob the Royal Mint of Spain. With a dense script, fleshed-out characters, jaw-dropping twists, and a soundtrack to die for, watching Money Heist will make you purchase your own red coveralls and Dali masks so you can rob your loved ones' hidden stack of Orion Pies. (Just kidding, don’t rob them, ask nicely instead.)

Mindhunter

A popular pick amongst crime aficionados and purists alike, Mindhunter is a show that will send shivers down your spine through multiple scenes of carefully constructed dialogue exchanges. Also, the master director David Fincher directed a number of episodes that will make you feel that you’ve been transported from your condo through a police interrogation room. Based on John Douglas’ book of the same name, it tells the life of an FBI profiler whose job is to track down serial killers. Set in the ‘70s and early ‘80s, you’ll finally know what it feels like to sit face-to-face with these heinous criminals, and you’ll also get to know what’s on their minds.

Trese

Proudly Philippine-made, Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo’s unique flair of crime drama and folk horror will surely tingle your senses in Trese. Adapted from the graphic novel of the same name, Trese tells the story of one Alexandra Trese as she fights dark supernatural forces that pull the strings in the criminal underworld to restore peace and order, but here’s the catch: there’s a bigger entity that’s waiting to be discovered. Liza Soberano voices the titular character with grace and confidence that we cannot wait to see her character again in the next season.

Squid Game

It’s the talk of the town right now, so what makes it special? Its barebones plot makes this series easy to grasp, but don’t let the story fool you, because it’s deeper than that. Squid Game’s plot involves hundreds of contestants from all walks of life, participating in a series of children’s games through an invitation with a twist: the games are deadly, and the stakes are high. How much determination do you have in order to win? Squid Game pins us to a group of contestants who form a fragile alliance in hopes of winning the grand prize-- but as expected, human nature will fire up in the most desperate of times. This Korean drama is thrilling, engaging, shocking, and even poignant as we are shown a window inside what humans really are once they are in danger.

Well, that’s it! If you are undecided on which to watch, just pick a show from this list, grab your favorite snack and refreshments, and you’re all set!
