Just like the number of cinemas, either within malls or just solo movie houses, condos in Manila are also plentiful.

Different properties are now in demand in the said location and have already saturated the residential areas - thanks to its trend. Let alone Manila, it has 152 thousand units in total, making every spot close and reachable; so is the cinema!

Masterlist of what to catch on the big screens

Both the place and schedule were set, now the choice of movie. With this expected reopening comes exciting movies to watchout for. Mostly a Hollywood base, (though Filipino films are also encouraged by many) watching them straight from movie houses will let you get rid of waiting for it to be uploaded on Netflix or other legit streaming video sites. No more lazy binge watching within the comforts of condo living. Looking for the best movie/s as a starter for the comeback? Here is a simple list of movies, accompanied with their brief synopsis as a guide, that is set to play on screens:

Dune

This sci-fi epic makes its way to the Philippines together with cinemas’ reopening. Starring Timothee Chalamet, based on Frank Herbert’s 1995 novel, it follows the story of Paul (played by Timothee) in a futuristic setting on the planet so called “Dune”. Ruled by noble families, the movie is set to unravel its plot full of action-packed scenes.

The said movie already has waves of from film enthusiasts and critics. Given that the movie is “critically-acclaimed” and is “made, designed, and dreamed to be seen in big screens” according to its director, Dune will definitely be a good starter in getting away from condo living type of movie nights.

A Quiet Place: Part II

Fan of the first installment? Then good news! The highly-awaited sequel to the post-apocalyptic 2018 hit is set to be in Philippine big screens.

It continues the story of the Abott Family’s survival from the outside world, again. The sequel is now joined with a newborn baby in the cast list. Imagine watching these alone if cinemas are still closed? Quite terrifying, right?

Don’t Breathe 2

Don’t Breathe 2 is just another thriller movie that is joining the reopening of cinemas. An overdue sequel from its first installment in 2016, the movie now premiers in the Philippines with much intense action, drama, and thriller to offer.

Malignant

Ever fan of the Conjuring cinematic universe? Then this movie should be up on the list. Another set of suspense from the horror master James Wan, Malignant is a psychological horror film that follows a woman with her dreams. Such dreams show visions of murders which then happen in real life (much like the Final Destination type of plot). The main character is set to confront the “devil”

This is no way a good recommendation to watch without company, let alone in a condo in Manila, thanks to cinema’s reopening.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City

Gore and thriller doesn’t stop here as Welcome to Racoon City hits Philippine cinemas. Bloodthirsty zombie action packed with, perhaps, adventure, follows a band of survivors in their quest against flesh-eating zombies. Welcome to Racoon City is a reboot of the previous movie, Resident Evil.

Venom: Let there be Carnage

Into the Marvel cinematic universe? Then this movie might become familiar. This is a story of a journalist named Eddie Brock and Marvel’s most complex character, Venom, trying to live a normal life together. Follow Eddie as he crosses paths with some serial killers in which things will eventually turn things up.

Finalize those masterlist and be ready with a sequence on what movie should come first once cinemas actually opened for guests.

Other movies that are set to conquer the big screens

  • Eternals
  • No Time To Die
  • Fast 9
  • Ghostbusters: Afterlife
  • Last Night in Soho
  • Spencer
  • The Addams Family 2
  • Encanto

Few reminders

Despite the excitement, there are still things to follow and consider when entering cinema theaters once reopened. Here is some salient information one must need to know to ensure everyone’s safety and, perhaps,  will still get a chance to watch inside cinemas again:

  • Body temperature is strictly checked on every guest before entering the vicinity.
  • One must have an authentic vaccination card or certificate and must be fully vaccinated. No card or certificate, no entry.
  • Both the staff and guest must ALWAYS have their face shields and facemasks with them.
  • Unlike before, eating inside the cinema is prohibited.
  • Maximum of 30% of the total capacity of theaters will only be allowed to be filled in. This is to ensure the strict implementation of social distancing protocols (two seats apart).
  • Cashless and contactless transactions are highly encouraged within ticket purchasing and other processes that previously involve human contact.
  • Improved air ventilation
  • Hand sanitizers must be available in every accessible point at all times (entrance, exits)
  • Mandatory hand-washing every 30 minutes for cinema employees
  • Deep cleaning of surfaces, chairs between screenings

But as the time moves forward, all the things that people usually do is getting back to normal little by little. Reopening of cinemas especially in Metro Manila is just a one step of getting back to normal.
