An unprecedented spike in Covid-19 cases fueled by the fast-moving Omicron variant is now causing the entire country a series of alert levels and restrictions for the first month of the year. As the country faces a surge that has accelerated at a pace that has not been experienced since the start of the pandemic, the government is trying to get ahead of it by making booster shots as convenient and accessible as possible.
The government has recently launched a program dubbed “Resbakuna sa mga Botika” in seven pharmacies and clinics in order to expand the mass immunization drive and address the shortage of vaccine providers. The pharmacies and clinics that took part in the said program are Healthway Manila, Mercury Drug Manila-Malate, President Quirino branch, South Star SSD Marikina branch, Watsons SM Supercenter Pasig, Generika Signal 1 Taguig branch, TGP Parañaque branch, and Qualimed Mckinley.
Ensuring the safety and health of the tourism workforce in preparation for the country’s eventual reopening, the Department of Tourism also joined the pharmacy and drive-thru vaccination program and started their program launch in Baguio City. The launch took place in Baguio City Convention Center where the turnover of Covid-19 response logistics happened and then proceeded to the Watson’s Pharmacy in SM Baguio and the drive-thru vaccination site at the Baguio Athletic Bowl for the vaccine rollout commenced.
The city of Manila has also opened its
doors for a drive-thru Covid-vaccination program in Luneta for people seeking
to get their booster shots. The vaccination program was launched last January
13. The vaccination site caters to 300 vehicles per day with a maximum of 5
passengers for the booster shot. This facility is also open for non-Manila
residents. Those hoping to receive their booster shot should present their
vaccination cards. A physical or digital copy is allowed as long as it is
issued by their respective local government units. The city of Manila targets
to provide additional Covid vaccine dose to 1,500 people per day and because of
its increasing demand, the operation for the four-wheeled vehicles has been on
a 24-hour basis since January 15, 2022.
The
local government of Pateros has also opened a vaccination drive-thru for
booster shots that also accommodates non-residents. The site is open to 18 to
64 years old and only requires a pre-registration from the QR code provided by
the local government to receive a schedule and avoid overcrowding and traffic
at the vaccination site.
According to authorities, people can get their booster shots if they have reached the third month since their second dose of AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer, Sinovac, and Sputnik V vaccines. Recipients of Janssen jab can get theirs at least two months after their first one. Some clinics such as Healthway and QualiMed Health Network also offer booster shots in the implementation of the Resbakuna program.
The country has indeed given priority to the lives of its citizens with all the drive-thru booster vaccinations sites available. All Filipinos from all walks of life can get their booster shots easily. These LGUs do not only allow individuals to get vaccinated in their private vehicles, but also those who are using public utility vehicles, such as the jeep, and those using their bikes. Inclusivity and convenience – these would bring the number of daily doses up to and hopefully get every Filipino safe and healthy.
